Tweetmeme Wordpress plugin poll – where should the button go?

The other day, Trisha and I had a discussion (argument) over the best place to put the Tweetmeme button. If you don’t know what Tweetmeme is, it is a website that shows the hottest links on Twitter and they have a plugin for Wordpress that makes it super easy for people to Tweet your blog post with just the click of a button. It also shows how many people Tweeted the post as well.

I actually had my Tweetmeme button on the bottom of the post, partially because it was causing some issues on the top, but also because I thought that people, once they read the post, would not necessarily scroll back up to hit the button.  This way, they would finish reading, SEE the button, and be more likely to click it.

But Trisha said that I need to put it at the top so people can see it.

What do YOU think?  Does location matter?  Where are you more likely to click the button, top or bottom?  Or should it be both?  Tweetmeme does have the option to show it on the top and bottom in the same post.

Help settle our argument!

Should Tweetmeme be at the beginning or the end of a post?

  1. I don’t like it on the top right as it interferes with the article, IMO. I’m one who will tweet an article after I’ve read it, so on the bottom is good for me.
But I’m new to Twitter, so I don’t know much. :-)

  2. Like you, it causes some formatting and esthetic issues at the top of my posts, so I have it at both the top and the bottem of my posts.

99% of the time I only click the tweet button if it is at the bottom of the post, I’m too lazy to scroll back up to the top for it after I’m done reading a post.

  4. I actually gravitate between Tweetmeme and TweetThis plugins. It always seems like one or the other stops working, and I have to switch.

I prefer Tweetmeme at the top right. People can see how many other’s have tweeted. The thing about Tweetmeme is that it gets posted to their website.

When I use TweetThis, it gets installed at the bottom of the post, which is OK, because it’s next to my comment section and Sexy Bookmarks. With TweetThis, it just gets posted to Twitter, and not their website (it’s strictly a tool.) (so I think)

  5. Beginning is where I am always use to seeing it. K, now how do I get this plug in??

  6. The top, right is always where I look for it first and it is my preference. However, I love the idea of having it in both places.

This would help the two kinds of readers that I seem to have. The first are those who will tweet out something because it sounds like a cool topic or they want to win something without reading the entire post.

Second, it will help those who read the entire post and deem it tweet-worthy.

    Great idea!

I didn’t vote because I think it’s the writers choice. I personally like it at the top because it looks better, but I also think it’s OK to have it at the bottom so people don’t have to scroll to the top to do so. However, I also think if you are going to tweet, you shouldn’t have to read an entire article in order to make that decision. Just tweet to show love, regardless of the article (unless it’s something horrible of course). I do not see a point of having it in both places (top and bottom) as to me that’s more of being pushy rather than asking someone to tweet your post.

  8. Sharon says:

I voted for both, because you can catch the people who tweet without reading and the people who tweet after reading. And it is really small so it doesn’t take anything away from your post or blog I think.

  9. Brandy says:

I voted for beginning, I thought the same thing – at the bottom as people would read the post and then see the button and click it, but I think it looks better and works well at the top of the post :-)

this was a debate for me as well, same argument, scrolling back up after they read it, but if it is a good article they will anyway, and the top right is pretty standard. I ended up going with the bottom because t was just out of place with my post image up top, but if someone is going to tweet the article, I don’t think it really matters in the end- you know?

    great article! (will re-tweet!)

  11. I said top but that’s because I do think its the best place. People see it and then read the post to see if it’s something they want to tweet. BUT. It messes up my post formatting and I don’t think it looks good at the top. So I put mine at the bottom. lol So kind of a mixed response there. :-)

  12. trisha says:

I think people tweet sometimes before they even END an article…and in your case, your TM button was off my screen so i would have almost never saw it.

  13. I didn’t think there was a way to change its position. I don’t like mine at the top because it messes with my formatting if I have a picture at the beginning of my post.

So how do you change the positioning?

  14. Brittany says:

I have mine at the beginning and I think it should be at the end now after what you said….it make sense. But it does look good at the top.

  15. Firefly says:

OK now I’m just going with what I had LOL top! Mine didn’t want to work on the bottom LOL and people clicked a lot…Than I had some issues with it and had to remove the thing completely! But I always wondered about this, since I know people always complain if they have to scroll back trough something they read ;)
